In response to devastating bushfires in Victoria in 2009, Australian Standard 3959 was updated and republished as AS3959:2009. The Building Code of Australia referenced the new Standard on the 1st May 2010. AS3959:2009 is primarily concerned with improving the ability of buildings in bushfire prone areas to withstand attack from bushfire. Protecting weep holes is critical as sparks and embers must be prevented from entering the wall cavity and causing unseen ignition of the building.
Weepa has a range of products to protect your home from the Bushfire Attack Level (BAL) required for your property. Our products can give you peace of mind that if a bushfire does come to your area the weep holes and the wall cavities they protect will be safe from ignition.
If you're about to construct be sure to use either the High Performance Bushfire Weepa (BAL-Low, BAL-12.5, BAL19, BAL29, BAL-40) or the Stainless Steel Weepa (BAL-Low, BAL-12.5, BAL19, BAL29, BAL-40 and BAL-FZ) to form a perfect weep hole.
