Weepa make a wide range of Weep hole formers for installation during construction to ventilate cavity walls. The range includes the Standard Weepa, the High Performance Bushfire Weepa, the New Generation Bushfire Weepa and the Stainless Steel Weepa.
In this video, we'll show you how to install the Stainless Steel Weepa in face brick walls as well as how to render around the Weepa after installation. We'll be using the stainless Weepa for this demonstration, but the techniques used in this video apply to the entire Weepa range.
When installing in face brick walls, place the Weepa in the perpend at specified intervals. You must have the weephole at at least every 1.2 metres to be compliant with the Australian building code. Make sure the Weepa is firmly in contact with the flashing.
If you intend on rendering, set the Weepa out five to 10 millimeters depending on the thickness of your render. This will make it easier to adjust for a great finish later. If you're not rendering, then ensure to remove the mortar guards after cleanup.
This needs to be done to ensure ventilation is adequate. The screening grate on all types of Weepas can be opened to clean out any debris, allow for inspection and pest management where appropriate. When rendering, first loosen the Weepa in the wall with a pair of pliers and pull it outwards. Then apply your render around the Weepas as you normally would.
Once you've applied your final coat, pat the Weepa back into the wall so it's flush with the render. Float around and over the top of the Weepa then sponge to finish. Make sure you wipe over the mortar guard so that it's easier to remove after painting. Once the mortar and paint are dry, remove the cover for a perfect finish.
